Filmmaker Bloom Presents "An Unlikely Friendship"

Filmmaker Diane Bloom recently visited DUSON to show her documentary "An Unlikely Friendship" where 80 DUSON faculty, staff, students, community partners and other Duke Heath employees gathered to watch.

Bloom introduced the film and led a discussion after that included sharing her experience interviewing C.P. Ellis and Ann Atwater, the subjects of the documentary. Ellis, a Ku Klux Klan member, and Atwater, a civil rights activist, came to be dear friends in the early 1970’s, despite their differences, after working on an intense 10-day community event to improve Durham Public Schools.

Duke Today featured Dr. Bloom and a short quote. Watch the recorded event here.
