Five members of the DUSON community recently graduated from the Duke Citizen Police Academy. Graduates include staff members Bonita Douglas, Maggie McDonough, Tina Johnson, Tina Leiter and faculty member Jill Brennan-Cook. The purpose of this academy is to introduce the Citizen's Police Academy graduates to some of the outside agencies that assist the Duke University Police Department in maintaining a safe environment at Duke University.

The graduates met every Wednesday for seven weeks for 2.5 hours each class. They participated in several learning workingshops and activities including topics covering: domestic violence, health care security, active shooter exercises, weapons introduction, crime scene investigation, felony stops and a tour of Duke Life Flight.
