Flexible Work Option for Staff
August 29, 2018
The flexible work option is among the many employee-friendly programs Duke offers to staff members. A number of DUSON staff have been able to take advantage of this option that allows working from home one day a week or month, compressing a full-time schedule into four days, or a similar scenario. For those managers and staff who may not be aware of this program, feel free to review the Duke HR- Flexible Work Options webpage for more details.
A few items to highlight:
- A flexible work arrangement is very much a partnership between the manager and staff member. It is an agreement to complete the work at the same high level of quality as before, while also reducing commuting time and in some cases being able to better balance with family schedule demands.
- The ability to implement a flexible work option can vary significantly across service departments and even positions within a department. Service and support to students and each other should be a priority consideration and may result in a flexible schedule not being possible.
- Flexible work arrangements must be formally documented and approved by the manager, DUSON HR and Duke Staff and Labor Relations. There is a form for that of course.
- If you have a flexible work arrangement already in place please make sure it has been approved using the form and is up to date and reflects the current arrangement.
