rosa gonzalez guardaRosa Gonzalez-Guarda, associate professor, participated in the Duke School of Medicine's virtual Medicine Ground Rounds (MGR) for a session that discussed "The Latinx Community is disproportionately affected by COVID-19. What can you and Duke Health do?." The session occurred on September 4.

The learning objectives were:

  • Describe the epidemiology of COVID-19 among the Latinx population of Durham County and North Carolina.
  • Discuss social drivers of the COVID-19 pandemic as experienced by Latinx immigrants in the Research Triangle and identify community-engaged strategies to address them.
  • Increase participation of the Latinx community in COVID-19 research at Duke.
  • Present ongoing initiatives at Duke Health designed to improve care for Latinx patients.
  • Identify opportunities for students, residents, faculty and community clinicians to decrease health disparities in the Latinx community.

MGR is a weekly topic- and case-based presentation by members of the faculty of the Department of Medicine (and colleagues in the School of Medicine). Topics and cases are selected to provide faculty and trainees with up-to-date knowledge about timely issues in internal medicine.
