Have An Idea for a Health App?

The mission of the Duke Institute for Health Innovation (DIHI) is to promote transformative innovation in health and healthcare, and to help cultivate a community of entrepreneurship across Duke University and the health enterprise.  We are pleased to announce the start a joint effort with the Office of the Vice Provost for Research in the creation of the Rapid Health App Prototyping Center. The center will consist of mobile developers working with teams of talented undergraduate students to build applications addressing real problems throughout the medical community.

We believe that there are great ideas for mobile apps in the healthcare space that could transform the way that health care providers interact with their patients, make clinical decisions, and ultimately deliver care. However, the major roadblock for these ideas and their development are time, technical expertise, and resources. DIHI and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research believe that the pool of talented undergraduate developers, combined with the technical experience of current mobile health developers can rapidly prototype mobile applications with minimal resources required.

A prototyped app will be fully functional, including integration with a mobile backend service. For the time being, we are taking only ideas for applications that do not need to directly interface with EPIC.
