Cristina Hendrix, associate professor, was recently featured in an article entitled "Cover Story: Elder Orphans: Numbers rise as challenges soar" published in Triangle Business Journal. 

One study found that more than one fifth of Americans are at risk of being alone as they age. Add to that the decreasing number of caregivers, an expensive health care system and a new crop of blue-collared swindlers and scammers, and elder orphans are facing an uphill battle as they get older.
