Johnson Earns Network+ Certification

tina johnsonTina Johnson, Educational Technology Specialist, recently earned an important information technology certification. Network+ is an exam that tests an analyst’s ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot and support a computer network.  It also covers advanced aspects of networking technology.

Johnson said, “the Network+ certification is part of my degree program at WGU.”  She is currently pursuing a BS in Information Technology.  “The program requires students to become certified in multiple areas of technology,” Johnson continues.  “It’s a broad program that prepares graduates for more challenging positions in information technology.”

While Network+ is a requirement for all computer network engineers at Duke, Johnson has found that it has been helpful locally, here at DUSON.  “I’ve applied the network troubleshooting model to help troubleshoot Sakai issues,” said Johnson.

“The Duke Health computer network is complex, requiring all IT staff to continually learn new technologies and processes,” explains Glenn Setliff, director of Information Technology.  “Certifications, such as Network+, keep our staff at the forefront of current technology, which is important to our continued success in supporting DUSON students, faculty and staff in partnership with Duke Health IT staff.”

When asked what’s next for her program, Johnson said that she will be required to achieve an IT security certification. “I’m not as worried about this one. Getting the Network+ cert completed required a lot of studies, and part of that was for network security.”  We wish Johnson success as she works to complete her degree program.
