Lipkus Submits Subcontract Application on Virginia Commonwealth University R01 Application

Kudos to Isaac Lipkus, professor, and his entire team for the submission of their Subcontract application on a Virginia Commonwealth University NIH R01 application entitled "Effects of Waterpipe Tobacco Heating Sources among Peer Groups: Puff Topography, Toxicant Exposure, Toxicant Yield, and Subjective Experiences." This proposal requests funding for a three-year period with a start date of April 1, 2020.

In Year One, Dr. Lipkus, working with the study team, will: 1) select the text + graphic warning that will accompany the waterpipe tobacco apparatus; 2) create assessment of reactions to the text + graphic warnings of harm of waterpipe tobacco smoking, perceptions of harms as well as attitudes toward waterpipe tobacco smoking. In Year Two Dr. Lipkus will: 1) start to develop the analyses plan that involves text + graphic warnings of harms of waterpipe tobacco smoking and how these reactions are related to perceptions of harms, subjective reactions to smoking waterpipe tobacco and smoking topography/toxicological outcomes. Continuing in Year 3: Dr. Lipkus will: 1) assist with analyses that involve text + graphic warnings of harms of waterpipe tobacco smoking and how reactions to the warnings are related to perceptions of harms, subjective reactions to smoking waterpipe tobacco and smoking topography/toxicological outcomes; and 3) help write papers and conference presentations pertaining to the main study findings.
