Message from the Chancellor: Duke Medicine Becomes DukeHealth
Improving health has always been the ultimate goal for Duke Medicine. With this historical and overarching aspiration in mind, we are officially changing our name from Duke Medicine to Duke Health.
The decision to make this change stems from widespread deliberations involving faculty, staff, trainees, alumni, board members and others. A renewed focus on health clearly emerged as a core pursuit in our new strategic planning framework, which will be introduced at the end of January.
Duke Health signals our intention to explore more comprehensive approaches to health that extend beyond medical care and into other determinants of population health improvement. And Duke Health represents a more inclusive and synergistic approach to maximizing contributions to health improvement from the diverse array of disciplines and schools that comprise Duke University, as well as from our external partners.
Some vital qualities, of course, will remain constant. Duke Health will continue to derive its strength from the internationally renowned health care delivered by our world-class clinicians and care teams, the breakthroughs in knowledge driven by our distinguished community of researchers, and the innovative training programs advanced by our exceptional educators around the globe.
Importantly, the indispensable constant is the value we place on the dedicated, compassionate and high-performing individuals who support and contribute to the achievement of our mission. You are the great strength of Duke Health!
Sincerely,
A. Eugene Washington, M.D.
Chancellor for Health Affairs, Duke University
