Message from the Dean: New Appointment & Letter from Representative Adcock

New Appointment

I am very pleased to announce Katherine Pereira, DNP, FAAN, FAANP will assume the role of Program Director of the School’s Doctorate of Nursing Practice Program (DNP), effective July 1, 2016. 

Dr. Pereira is an Associate Clinical Professor at the Duke University School of Nursing (DUSON) and has been a faculty member at DUSON since 2005. She is a certified (ANCC) Family Nurse Practitioner and is also certified in Advanced Diabetes Management, by the American Association of Diabetes Educators. 

Dr. Pereira currently serves as the Faculty Coordinator of the Family Nurse Practitioner major in the MSN program- a program which has consistently ranked in the top 10 for several years and this year rose to #2.   Dr. Pereira currently practices as a FNP in the Division of Endocrinology at the Duke University Medical Center.  Dr. Pereira will bring extensive teaching, clinical and scholarship experience to her role as Program Director of the DNP program.  She has 13 publications in refereed journals and 4 more in press, primarily in the area of diabetes management.

Dr. Pereira will report to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and will be a standing member of the School’s Academic and Executive Teams.
