Message from the Dean: New Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Brigit Carter, PhD, RN, CCRN, as DUSON’s first Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion (ADDI), effective July 1, 2018. The snow did not deter Dr. Carter’s interview day earlier this month and evaluative input from faculty, staff and students confirmed strong support for Dr. Carter’s appointment as ADDI. One goal of the People and Environment focus area of our strategic plan is to advance all dimensions of diversity and inclusiveness as essential components of excellence at DUSON. I am confident and excited about the leadership Dr. Carter will bring to the ADDI’s office and efforts in achieving that goal.
Dr. Carter joined DUSON in 2010. She served as the project director for two HRSA Nursing Workforce Diversity grants at DUSON. The current grant, “The Health Equity Academy II”, focuses on increasing underrepresented minorities in nursing and understanding social determinants among undergraduate nursing students. She has served as the Academic Coordinator for the Health Equity Academy and the preceding grant, Making a Difference in Nursing.
Dr. Carter was selected for the 2017 inaugural George Washington University Leaders for Health Equity Fellowship which was completed in December 2017. She remains engaged with the fellowship and serves as a mentor to the new cohort. Dr. Carter is also a 2017-2018 Duke Teaching for Equity fellow.
Dr. Carter will continue as ABSN Program Director until June 30, 2018 and information about a successor for the ABSN Program Director position will be shared soon.
