Morgan Receives Funds from HRSA to Support Nurse Anesthetist Traineeships

Congratulations to Brett Morgan, assistant professor, and his team for receiving $32,566 from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to support Nurse Anesthetist Traineeships.

The purpose of this project is to reduce health disparities in the treatment of pain through increasing the population's access to health care by preparing advanced practice nurses as nurse anesthetists. Funding from this project provides financial assistance to nurse anesthesia students who are enrolled in the Duke University Nurse Anesthesia Program and who have completed at least 12 months of course study. The focus of this project is to increase the number of CRNAs practicing anesthesia and managing chronic and acute pain in rural, medically underserved areas by training nurse anesthetists who will seek employment in rural medically underserved, HPSA or MUGA areas upon graduation. In addition, participants will receive training that will be useful in combating the national opioid crisis.
