Mountz Joins Jobs Plus Program Planning Group

heather mountzHeather Mountz, D-CHIPP coordinator, was asked to join Durham Housing Authority (DHA)'s Jobs Plus Program Planning Group. DHA recently received a four-year $2.3 million Jobs Plus grant from Housing and Urban Development. The program is aimed to provide job training and assistance to residents at DHA’s largest public housing property, McDougald Terrace. Public housing rent is 30-percent of the residents’ income, thus rent payments increase as income increases. However, Jobs Plus participants will not pay more in rent while in the program. Instead, they will be encouraged to save their additional income to purchase a car or a home or to simply improve their finances. The Jobs Plus Program Planning Group is tasked to provide consultation and oversight during a six-month grant planning period.
