Nominations for DAISY Award Due March 1

daisy award winnersIt is that time again! Each year we accept nominations from all of our community members for the DAISY AWARD; given out each May at the DUSON Awards Ceremony. This past May, we congratulated Nicolena Dewitt, MSN'20, Midge Bowers, associate professor, and Alyssa Lantiere, clinical instructor (all of whom are pictured). The deadline is March 1. Nominees and the winners will be announced at the Spring Awards ceremony in May.

What Is The DAISY Award? DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The award is for extraordinary nurses, nurse educators, and students. Through this program, we honor the super-human work students do for patients and families every day and faculty/ clinical instructors do for students every day.

Faculty and Instructor Criteria

  • A. Consistently excels as a role model and mentor for professional nursing.
  • B. Inspires and motivates students through their enthusiasm for teaching, learning and nursing.
  • C. Demonstrates interest in and respect for students.
  • D. Uses personal attributes (e.g. caring, confidence, patience, integrity and flexibility) that facilitate professional growth.
  • E. Is consistently recognized as being fair and unbiased in their treatment of individual students.
  • F. Consistently shows excellent interpersonal skills.
  • G. Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with students and colleagues.

Student Criteria

  • A. Demonstrates commitment to compassionate care of patients and families.
  • B. Makes a connection with patients, families, peers, and faculty by building trust and respect.
  • C. Advocates strongly for patients and families.
  • D. Uses evidence-based practice to provide quality, holistic patient care.
  • E. Listens with empathy to both patients and family.
