OGACHI and Office of Diversity and Inclusion Partner to Host "Taste Your Way Around the World"

DUSON's Office of Global and Community Health Initiatives (OGACHI) and Office of Diversity and Inclusion recently partnered to host the School's first "Taste Your Way Around the World" luncheon, a celebration of May 21's World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

“We wanted to bring the School of Nursing together to celebrate our diversity,” said Rebecca Fishman, OGACHI senior program manager. “Celebrating our diversity through dialogue – and food – is a wonderful way to bridge the gaps between cultures, bring out our shared humanity and make DUSON a warm and inclusive place to work.”

At the luncheon, community members shared dishes and stories about foods important to their family and communities. Community members brought in Vegemite on toast, chicken tikka masala, Colombian coffee, samosas and Pierogis, which are dumplings often made in Central and Eastern Europe.

"Witnessing a group of diverse people come together, sharing funny and interesting stories about cooking and baking was a great way to highlight May 21's World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development," said Najla McClain, program director for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion." The likeness of our family, cultural and social traditions stood out the most to me – these commonalties enrich and sustain healthy work relationships. This was such a successful first event, I know the next Taste of DUSON will be even better."
