OGACHI Welcomes Visitors from Tanzania

On Monday, October 28, the Office of Global and Community Health Initiatives (OGACHI) will be hosting a delegation from one of our partner organizations, Teamwork City of Hope (TCOH) that will include the following participants: Regina Chacha (Executive Director and Co-Founder), Hudson Mahare (Tanzania Country Director), Jill Hawley (ABSN 2016 and City of Hope Volunteer), and Hilda Boke (Educator and Activist).

TCOH is an international non-governmental and faith-based organization that empowers local leaders through a child-focused and holistic model aimed at self-reliance, integration, and sustainability with the local community in Tanzania. TCOH was founded in 2007 by the late Dr. John Chacha and his wife Regina (learn more by clicking here). DUSON signed a clinical affiliation agreement in 2013 for ABSN students and a separate agreement for MSN and DNP non-clinical placements in 2018. To date, seventy-one ABSN students have participated in global clinical immersion trips to TCOH, with an estimated ten more scheduled to go in Spring 2020.

Here are the objectives for the one-day visit:

  • Deepen relationships and opportunities for sustainable programming and partnership between DUSON and Teamwork City of Hope

  • Build relationships with OGACHI team and key faculty members involved in DUSON’s global portfolio

  • Discuss and plan upcoming global clinical immersion experience in Spring 2020

  • Meet with DUSON students and Clinical Instructors who have participated in past global clinical immersion experiences at Teamwork City of Hope

  • Tour the Duke Health campus and DUSON’s Center for Nursing Discovery

  • Complete recording session for video on OGACHI website

Should you see our visitors in the halls, please help extend a warm and hearty welcome!
