PhD Student Cao Receives Sigma Theta Tau Grant
Congratulations to PhD student Jiepin Cao and her advisors on the award of her Sigma Theta Tau Global Nursing Excellence small grant entitled "Understanding Intimate Partner Violence Among Chinese: From the lens of social determinants of health and intersectionality." This is a one-year period with a start date of June 1, 2020. Sigma Theta Tau has awarded $5,000 to this project.
This study will examine the extent to which demographic factors, socioeconomic status, and gender role attitudes are associated with Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) among adult Chinese women from the theoretical lens of Social Determinants of Health and intersectionality as well as to describe the general health for different IPV exposure groups. Subject Population: Adult Chinese women.
The aims of the study is to 1) describe the past three-month and lifetime frequency of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) among Chinese women, 2) examine the extent to which demographic factors, socioeconomic status (SES), and gender role attitudes are associated with IPV among adult Chinese women through the theoretical lens of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) (World Health Organization, 2017a) and feminist intersectionality (Crenshaw, 1991), and to describe 3) the general health status between Chinese who have been exposed to IPV in the past three months and lifetime compared to those without a history of IPV during these time frames.
