Randolph, Johnson Discuss Barbershops, Salons Reopening in COVID Session

<p>Assistant Professors Schenita D. Randolph and Ragan Johnson were part of the virtual "COVID-19 Community Conversations: Transitioning back to the salon and barbershop" meeting on April 27.</p>

Randolph and Ragan Johnson were part of the virtual "COVID-19 Community Conversations: Transitioning back to the salon and barbershop" meeting on April 27. Barbershop and beauty salon partners who serve on Randolph's community advisory council and who have been instrumental in her research addressing HIV disparities among black male adolescents and black women all participated in the discussion and invited other beauty industry professionals and clients within their networks. Majority of participants were from around North Carolina. Also in attendance were barbers and stylists from Tennessee who had worked with Johnson prior to her coming to Duke.

Randolph co-faciliated the discussion with Gene Blackmon. Bryan Batch with the Duke University School of Medicine and Duke Center for REACH Equity, Isaretta Riley with the Duke Department of Medicine, and Nadine J. Barrett with the Duke Cancer Institute and Duke Clinical & Translational Science Institute ​were also featured experts.
