Randolph Presents at Association of Nurses in AIDS Care Conference in Atlanta

Schenita Randolph recently presented on "Perspectives of African American Fathers about the Facilitators and Barriers of Sexual Health Communication" at the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care Conference in Atlanta, GA.

Abstract: African-American males between the ages of 13 and 24, compared to males of other races, are disproportionately affected by human immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV).  Parent-youth sexual health communication is associated with higher rates of sexual abstinence and condom use, which can prevent the risk for HIV.  However, the majority of parent-youth sexual health communication research has been focused on mothers and few studies have included the perspectives of African American fathers. The purpose of this study was to explore the facilitators and barriers of sexual health communication of African American fathers with their preadolescent and adolescent sons.
