Randolph Submits Application to The Rita & Alex Hillman Foundation
Kudos to Schenita Randolph and her entire team for the submission of her application to The Rita & Alex Hillman Foundation entitled "The Cutting E.D.G.E. (Empowering Dads to Guide and Educate): A nurse driven mobile application to promote father-son sexual health communication and healthy sexual behaviors among Black male adolescents in the United States South." This proposal requests funding for a one-year period with a start date of January 1, 2019.
The overall goal of this project is to develop and conduct a formative evaluation of a mobile app- The Cutting E.D.G.E (Empowering Dads to Guide and Educate) - that addresses father-son sexual health communication and the promotion of healthy sexual behaviors (i.e. HIV testing) among Black male youth through three modules: 1) Initiating Conversations; 2) Sexual Health Information and 3) Community resources. The spiral technology action research (STAR) model will be used to guide the development, implementation, and formative evaluation of the app. This model uses an action-research approach to integrate community input with theory, quality improvement, and community mobilization. In this innovative intervention, we will recruit participants using our previously successful barbershop-based recruitment strategy, which will incorporate signage about the mobile app placed in the barbershops. This project will be conducted in two phases.
