REACH Equity Research, Scholars and Think Tank Awards: Now Accepting Applications

The Duke Center for REsearch to AdvanCe Healthcare Equity (REACH Equity) is committed to supporting investigators at every career stage who are interested in conducting research which promotes health equity.  Therefore, REACH Equity is seeking applications for three funding opportunities:  Research Vouchers Program will supplement currently funded research, or support standalone research projects conducted by faculty at any level and broadly related to the REACH Equity theme completed over one year. Research Scholars Development Program is intended to support early-stage investigators (trainees, postdoctoral students) who are interested in conducting health disparities research.  Scholars work with a faculty mentor (identified by the trainee) to develop a research proposal and complete a project over two years. Transdiciplinary Think Tanks (TTT) provide support to bring together faculty across disciplines who have a common interest in addressing racial and ethnic disparities in the clinical encounter.  The TTTs aim to catalyze and support research related to the REACH Equity theme and to foster collaboration among health disparities researchers across Duke University.

The theme for the REACH Equity center is to address racial and ethnic disparities in health by developing and testing interventions that improve the quality of patient-centered care in the clinical encounter – a setting in which racial and ethnic disparities are well-documented.  Applicants for the three awards should propose research broadly related to the theme.  Proposals may include any research method (quantitative, qualitative, etc.) idea, but should clearly focus on issues related to addressing racial and ethnic disparities or improving underrepresented racial and ethnic populations health in the clinical setting.  Projects must be completed within the one year funding period for Research Vouchers and Transdisciplinary Think Tanks, and up to two years for the Research Scholars Development program.

We plan to fund REACH Equity Research Vouchers up to $12,500, Research Scholar Awards up to $5,000, and Transdisciplinary Think Tanks up to $1,500.
