Remembering the 1994 Rwandan Genocide
Between April 7 and mid-July, 1994; an estimated one million Rwandans were killed. In recognition of the 25th commemoration of the genocide, DUSON will honor its partner, the University of Rwanda School of Nursing and Midwifery, by displaying a poster and hand-made rug in the Pearson Atrium from April 8-12. The rug, made by survivors of the violence, was presented to DUSON by Donatilla Mukamana, dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, during the Dorothy L. Powell Annual Global Health Lecture in October 2016.
We encourage students, faculty and staff to visit the display and share your comments and reflections in a journal, which will be sent to Mukamana and her colleagues at the University of Rwanda.
Mukamana’s lecture entitled "Rwandan Women and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Resulting from Genocide" is available in full here.
