The Duke University School of Nursing (DUSON) Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion wants all team members to exemplify the school's core values of excellence, integrity, collaboration, respect, innovation, diversity and inclusiveness. Therefore, the School is offering workshops for faculty and staff with the goal of teaching the foundational concepts of cultural intelligence.

Cultural intelligence is achieved when someone has the skills and confidence to interact in multicultural groups and in multicultural settings, said Angela Richard-Eaglin, DNP, MSN, FNP-BC, CNE, FAANP, an assistant professor at DUSON and a certified professional cultural intelligence and unconscious bias facilitator and coach.

“It's not just about race and ethnicity," said Richard-Eaglin, who leads the workshops. “I'm a nurse. So when I interact with a team that includes people from other disciplines like social work and physical therapy, I need to know how to adapt to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team."
