School of Nursing Celebrates the Excellence of Students, Faculty and Staff

The School of Nursing recently celebrated the excellence of students, faculty and staff during its annual Awards Ceremony. Award winners were:

Ian Ryan received the Sigma Theta Tau International Beta Epsilon Chapter Ruby Wilson Award for clearly demonstrating clinical excellence and leadership as a student in the ABSN program.

Susan Herndon received the Sigma Theta Tau International Beta Epsilon Chapter Thelma Ingles Award in recognition of clinical experience and scholarly activities as a student in the MSN program.

Marilyn Oermann received the Sigma Theta Tau International Beta Epsilon Chapter Legacy Award for her sustained efforts to help others grow and develop in their nursing careers.

Jill Brennan-Cook received the Outstanding ABSN Faculty Award from graduating ABSN students for demonstrating the highest standard of excellence in teaching, going above and beyond in the role of an educator, and being vested in seeing each student succeed.

Vicky Keathley received the Outstanding ABSN Clinical Instructor Award from graduating ABSN students for demonstrating the highest standard of excellence in teaching, going above and beyond in the role of educators, and being vested in seeing each student succeed.

Anne Derouin received the Outstanding MSN Faculty Award from graduating MSN students for her excellence as a teacher, mentor, and being vested in seeing each student succeed. Derouin also received the award for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Nancy Short received the Outstanding DNP Faculty Award from DNP students for demonstrating superior excellence and innovation in teaching and mentoring. Short also received the award for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Wei Pan and Paula Tanabe received the Outstanding PhD Faculty Awards from PhD students for demonstrating superior excellence and innovation in teaching and mentoring.

Jennie De Gagne received the Distinguished Teaching Award for demonstrating effectiveness, innovation, and collegial support in teaching at the School of Nursing.

Ryan Shaw received the Early Career Scientist Award for his contributions of a scientist early in his research career and showing potential to develop a sustained program of research to enhance nursing science and practice.

Margaret Bowers received the Clinical Faculty Practice Excellence Award for her outstanding clinical practice contributions of regular rank faculty.

​Eun-Ok Im received the Distinguished Contributions to Science Award for her lifetime achievements in research that have significantly advanced the scientific underpinnings in the field of nursing science.

Ariella Rosalie Jolly received the Outstanding DNP Scholarly Project Award for her project that best describes the development, implementation, and evaluation of a practice change that addresses a significant health care problem in an organization and holds potential for adoption by other agencies.

​Latefa Dardas received the Distinguished Dissertation Award for her innovative and significant research that demonstrates methodological and substantive quality.

Darlene Rogers received the Annie Beery Bieber Award for Outstanding Leadership for providing extraordinary leadership within the School through advocacy for improvements in intellectual life or the quality of life as a community.

Tonya Crespo received the Bonnie Jones Friedman Humanitarian Award for service contributions that echoed Dr. Friedman's dedication to the highest standards of patient care and service to the vulnerable as master's students. Dr. Friedman is a family nurse practitioner known for her superb accomplishments in teaching.

Jill Cordell, Bonita Douglas and Nora Harrington received the Dean's Staff Excellence Awards for consistently demonstrating the highest level of commitment and excellence in the performance of their responsibilities and service to the School.

​Charnetta Cooper received the Leadership Award for being open-minded, resourceful, enthusiastic, respectful, a good communicator, flexible, proactive and demonstrating her investment in the School's goals and success.

Doreen Matters received the Frances Mauney Community and Collaboration Award for influencing others in working in support of the greater School of Nursing mission while collaborating across School departments, programs, divisions, and the Duke community to positively influence others.

Susan Ray received the Peer to Peer Award  for fostering a sense of community, serving as a positive influence and going above and beyond to actively engage in creating outstanding levels of service to other staff members within the School.

Teresa Jenkins received the Outstanding Service to Students Award for going above and beyond to assist the School's students and exemplifying consistent support and dedication to the education, scholarship, and success of student educational and personal growth.

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Awards will be announced at the CRNA reception on August 26.
