School of Nursing Faculty & Staff Receive DIHI Innovation Awards

The Duke Institute for Health Innovation (DIHI) recently announced that it will fund care delivery innovation projects that will help Duke Health lead in the areas of population health and analytics, novel patient interactions, new and team-based models of care, and to optimize patient flow. This is the third year that the institute has funded projects through a call for innovation applications from Duke University. This year DIHI has continued to increase its projects and investments through the RFA process, supporting 12 projects in 2016.

Over 60 applications from across the university and health system competed for support. The winners will receive funding support from DIHI in addition to project management support, access to data, analytics and visualization, and statistical support. Of these, Kevin Sowers, president of Duke University Hospital and DUSON alumni, and Tom Owens, MD, chief medical officer for the Duke University Health System, have directly invested in three innovation pilots.

In the category of "Novel Patient Interactions," Loretta Matters for "Project CALM: Personalized Music for Delirium Prevention." Bradi Granger for "Using Endocrine Dashboard and Duke PillBox to improve medication adherence to tackle uncontrolled hypertension & glucose control in patients with diabetes."

In the category of "New and Team-Based Models of Care," Sophia Smith and Jianhong Chang for "Cancer Distress Coach RCT."
