Sign Up for New DUSON Faculty & Staff Workshop - "The Finances and Economy of DUSON”
A number of faculty and staff have expressed interest in learning more about DUSON’s finances, so I have created a new workshop to meet this need. About 20 DUSON faculty and staff have attended the initial pilot sessions and the feedback has been positive. I am now opening up the sessions to all staff and faculty.
“The Finances and Economy of DUSON” will increase understanding of the inter-relationship of our finances, School fiscal priorities, the money management strategies we utilize to build resources over the long-term while achieving short term goals, and what makes this place tick – fiscally speaking, that is. The workshop is comprised of two parts consisting of two 90-minute sessions and is eligible for 3 CE credits. Although we will be covering a large amount of material, the workshop is designed for small groups and to be highly interactive (without much accounting speak!). Topics covered include:
Session 1
- And DUSON’s net worth is $ __________
- Reserves - savings account with a lousy interest rate
- Grow baby, grow! (an endowment’s best friend)
- The fiscal machine – primary support resources
- Group exercise – financial levers
Session 2
- Inter-relationship of mission areas
- Tuition rate and scholarships
- DUSON research economics 101
- The parallel universe – our budget process
- Group exercise – a “surplus” of ideas
