Ryan ShawThe Duke Clinical Research Institute's 6th Vital Sign study was featured in the "Walking Speed Could Be a New Indicator of Health" article on HealthCanal.com. The 6th Vital Sign is a global research study that uses Apple’s ResearchKit to measure a vital sign; Ryan Shaw, associate professor, is one of the study's team members.

“As a 6th Vital Sign, walking speed can be used to track a person’s recovery from illness or injury, declines in health, or even risks for falls or depression. Among older adults, we know that walking speed can even be used to predict survival," Janet Prvu Bettger from Duke’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery said to Gaby Goldsobel for the story.
