Summer MSN OCI Occurs Virtually

msn virtual OCI 2020It was a busy week as MSN students virtually engaged in their summer on campus intensive (OCI).

Around 275 students attended the first OCI on June 10. Anne Derouin, MSN program director and associate professor, gave a welcome presentation, and Sean Convoy, assistant professor, presented his Wise Minds session, which was well-received by the following and more students:

  • This is the best ever! On point and definitely on time. – Lori

  • I agree!  Feels like a personal presentation to just me.  – Nicole

  • I need to watch this lecture at the beginning and middle of every semester. – Miriam

  • Especially in a time like this, we all need to check our thoughts, actions, and reactions. – Liya

  • I need his talks mid-day at my job. – Shannon

virtual suturing msn ociThe students broke up to attend sessions specific to their OCI (1, 2, or 3) including Pharmacology, Documentation & Billing, Professional Transitions and Mock Interviews, Table Top Sims, Communicating Clearly in Teams, and Finding Your True North.

The OCI-2 Acute Care students were mailed suturing kits that included a skin pad, sutures and scalpel. On June 10, these students participated in a live, virtual suturing workshop where the facilitator demonstrated various suturing techniques and answered questions while students practiced at home. This session was important for the acute care students to have this summer, so they are more prepared for precepted clinical experiences.

At the end of the day, students were invited to socialize in a virtual happy hour; there were about 60 students in attendance.
