Tanabe Travels to Jamaica To Lead Ministry of Health Project

Paula Tanabe was invited by the Ministry of Health in Jamaica to help lead the implementation of a five level triage system for Accident and Emergency Departments throughout the island along with Dr. Bisasor-McKenzie from the Ministry of Health and Dr. Simone French from the University of West Indies. A member of the Emergency Severity Index Triage Research Team since 2000, Tanabe assisted other members of the Ministry of Health and conducted four train the trainer workshops over four days in four regions of the Jamaican health system.

A total of 112 emergency nurses and physicians were trained from 19 different Accident and Emergency Departments. Trainers will train all their emergency nurses and physicians by September 1. Tanabe will follow up with monthly learning collaborative sessions for nine months to help sustain the implementation.
