Tech Tips: Online Learning

Lynda.com, Duke’s online training partner, is now LinkedIn Learning! As a member of the Duke community, you have access to one of the best training sites available. LinkedIn Learning now includes over 13,000 video courses with new titles added each week.

First off, log in to LinkedIn Learning from this page. You’ll use your NetID and Password just like Lynda, but the LinkedIn Learning experience is a little different, especially first time in:

  • You’ll be asked if you want to link your LinkedIn account. If you elect to link your account, you’ll get course recommendations based on their analysis of your profile. But it’s not required.

  • You’ll be asked what topics you’re interested in using the tabs Creative, Business, Technology. You’ll need to select something in order to continue. Whatever you select, it will not limit your search abilities.

  • Finally, you’re asked if you would like to set a goal for learning (not required).

Once you get past the opening, we recommend that you select the Take a Tour button located in the Welcome to LinkedIn Learning header.

What’s available in LinkedIn Learning? LinkedIn Learning offers a wide variety of topics from which to select. Interested in looking at Office 365, but don’t know where to start? There’s a video just for you called Learning Office 365. Do you feel you’re getting behind on your workload? Try Time Management for Students – a 3 minute introduction to a full set of short time management tips you can fully explore. Maybe one of your professors has assigned a PowerPoint presentation project. Start with PowerPoint 2016 Essential Training.

Other topics include:

  • Adobe Photoshop

  • Career planning and management

  • How to use your GoPro camera

  • Writing effective emails

  • Communicating with empathy

Spend some time browsing the available subjects and chances are you’ll find something that piques your interest.
