Tech Tips: Take a Break from Exam Studying

Tech Tips GraphicFor our DUSON graduate students - we know that you are probably spending most of your waking hours studying right now.  Remember that a 15-minute break can do wonders for removing some of the anxiety of long study sessions, even in group study.

Back by popular demand: Your Tech Pros recommend some great ways to take an online exam break!  Remember to set a timer - these sites are extremely addictive.

Good luck with exams!

IT Service Desk & Infrastructure

  • Carla Nichols, Assistant Director of Information Technology recommends this podcastAsk A is a podcast where comedians KevOnStage and Big Irish Jay ask a guest questions that the average person would not usually have the opportunity to ask.
  • Denise Williams, Systems Administrator & Team Leader, likes Forest, an app you can download on your phone to help focus.  You plant a tree and it grows within a certain amount of time.  Be careful.  If you leave the app, your tree dies.
  • Jeffrey Clark, Computer Tech III uses his computer to interactively generate art.  This is a cool site that allows you to draw intricate diagrams by simply dragging your mouse.
  • Nick McNeill, Computer Tech III – how about a few mini mobile games that you can play to take your mind to a fun place when you need a break away from all the studying and the exams?  Try it out – I did.  So much fun!

Web Development

  • David Parrish, Manager of Application Development enjoys VSauce, a great place to learn something new and have some fun doing it.  David says, “I’m a vat of useless information, so this is right up my street.”
  • Terry Owen, FullStack Developer encourages you to take advantage of some quality sleep during your exam break by visiting this site.
  • Wes Tatum, TAMS Operations Manager recommends this site for fun facts, because everyone should know how many times the human eye blinks each year.

AV Support

  • Ramon Sotelo, Classroom Education Technology Specialist is a longtime fan of Andrew Zimmern since his days on the Food Network.  Check out his site.
  • Rodney Bean, Distance Education Technology Specialist selected Gamesheep Cross Road Exit.  Basically, you have to get your car through the exit by moving other vehicles out of the way.  It’s a good problem-solving game that can easily waste 20 minutes.
  • Will Lassiter, AV Tech suggests Memedroid.  Memes are always a good way to relieve stress, especially when they are funny.

Ed Tech Team

  • Paige Horton, Manager of Education Technology, invites you to create your own mix of relaxing sounds.  With A Soft Murmer, you can create the perfect mix of rain, crackling fire, waves, thunder, birds, etc. to meet your specific relaxation needs.  Your customized mix will help you to focus, stay on task, or simply relax.  You can even share your custom mix with family, friends, and classmates via social media.
  • Tina Johnson, Instructional Technology Specialist recommends that you draw a stickman and save the world!  Respond to the prompts given on the screen by doing some heroic doodling.
  • Be’Ledda Dixon, Educational Technologist likes this jigsaw puzzle site.  Putting the pieces of a puzzle together is relaxing and fun.  It’s good for a study break as it helps relieve the anxiety and pressure from studying.

Please note:

There will be no Tech Tuesday updates for the remainder for the semester. We hope you enjoy the break. Your next edition of Tech Tuesday will be our beginning of semester Back-to-School Tips on May 14, 2019.
