News and Observer readers recently nominated more than 100 outstanding nurses for its Celebrate Nursing special issue in the May 8 edition of the Sunday paper. The special issue was in honor of Nurses Week.

Faculty members Donna Biederman, Marilyn Oermann and Beth Phillips were nominated and ABSN clinical instructor Jennifer Farmer was one out of 10 to receive special recognition by the North Carolina Nurses Association as an extraordinary nurse.

Kristin Kelly wrote in the nomination: "Thanks to the passion and dedication of Jennifer Farmer, the WakeMed Children's Emergency Department better meets the physical and psychological needs of the youngest victims of violence and sexual abuse. Jennifer was the catalyst for educating the staff and securing resources to provide the most vulneable of patients with the most expert care.
