Whitehurst Works With Durham Community Partner for New Fellowship

unique whitehurstUnique Whitehurst, MSN student, is excited to share that she has been selected as a fellow for the inaugural GradEngage Fellowship, hosted by the Kenan Institute for Ethics. This fellowship supports graduate students as they deepen their relationship and/or research with a Durham-based community partner. This fellowship opportunity will support Whitehurst's current research and quality improvement efforts with Lincoln Community Health Center and the American Heart Association as she continues to engage as a graduate student leader with the Bass Connections “Closing the Gap on Health Disparities and Treatment Outcomes in Hypertension” project team. Her work with this team involves the development and implementation of interventions which focus on improving the burden of hypertension in African Americans in Durham County.

As part of her fellowship, she has to publish articles about her partnership and work for the Kenan website. Her first one, "Bridging the Gap: A New Partnership With Historical Ties," has been published. In the article, Whitehurst writes more about her drive for her work and how her partnership with Lincoln Community Health started.
