Young Joins DUSON Marketing Team

Katie Bowler Young will join DUSON as our new Assistant Dean for Marketing, Communications and Business Development on October 11, after a nationwide search that yielded an outstanding group of candidates.

Katie Bowler Young will join DUSON as our new Assistant Dean for Marketing, Communications and Business Development on October 11, after a nationwide search that yielded an outstanding group of candidates.

She has worked in communications and media for 27 years, with nearly 20 years of experience in external relations in higher education. Prior to joining DUSON, Young is serving as Senior Director for Global Partnership and Programs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she has been responsible for global communications and academic and cultural programs. She has organized numerous high-profile international events, partnerships, and co-branding opportunities, earning recognition among key audiences and furthering joint academics and research.

Previously, she led communications at UNC School of Law, where she was editor of Carolina Law magazine, and Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, where she was editor of Global Health. She has earned communications awards from the American Public Health Association, the American Association of Port Authorities, and the New Orleans Press Club. Her partnership work has been recognized with a Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrator award and she was recently nominated for a 2021 North Carolina Governor’s Award for Excellence in the category of Innovation and Efficiency for campus and international partner relations that helped to secure global education at UNC-Chapel Hill during the COVID-19 pandemic. Young is a member of the executive committee of the North Carolina Coalition for Global Competitiveness.

With a lifelong commitment to the arts, Young is also a community arts organizer, educator, and writer. She has taught creative writing at Warren Wilson College and digital writing at Tulane University. She is the author of "Enrique Alférez: Sculptor," recently recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts, and two books of poetry. She earned an MFA in creative writing with a concentration in poetry from Warren Wilson College and earned her BA in drama and communications from the University of New Orleans.
