Treatment Algorithms
A number of adult and pediatric treatment algorithms and health maintenance guides were adapted from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute Expert Panel report. The algorithms were developed by the Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC) Sickle Cell Task Force led by Drs’. Marian Earls, Betsey Tilson, and Nirmish Shah. These tools were approved by sickle cell experts and primary care providers throughout NC.
These tools are meant to assist non-SCD providers in the management of routine health maintenance and aid in the evaluation of other symptoms that may require a higher level of care. It is always prudent to consult with a sickle cell expert.
Additional resources are available at www.scapn.org. The Sickle Cell Adult Provider Network is a national group of healthcare professionals working in adult sickle cell disease. The website allows for participants to post questions and obtain specific feedback.
