Empowering Professional Diversity Scholarship

The Empowering Professional Diversity Scholarship supports the education of a pediatric-focused nurse pursuing a degree as a pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) who identifies with an ethnically or culturally diverse background, racial diversity, gender diversity, disability or is otherwise a member of a historically marginalized community and/or one that is underrepresented in pediatric nursing. 

The recipient will receive a scholarship of $3,000 to be used for educational expenses. The recipient must utilize the scholarship within one year of receiving the award. Any unused monies must be returned in a timely manner.

Qualification Criteria:

         Acceptance into or current part- or full-time enrollment in accredited PNP program.

         Member of a historically marginalized community.

         Must have an expected graduation date within three years or less.

         Must be in good standing academically, GPA of 3.0 to 4.0 (based on 4-point system)

Application Requirements:  This is a self-nomination process. All applicants must submit an online application which includes:

1.       Personal statement (500 words or less) addressing the following:

·         Why are you passionate about pediatrics?

·         What unique strengths and experiences would you bring to the PNP role / pediatric nursing?

·         In your future role, how would you inspire others who share a similar background to consider a PNP career?

2.       Curriculum Vitae (CV) or resume

3.       Transcript from an accredited nursing program.

4.       Applicants must submit two letters of support from (1) nursing colleague, (2) a faculty member focused in pediatrics addressing the applicant’s clinical competence, academic achievement and leadership. NOTE: If the applicant is not yet enrolled in a PNP program, a letter from a supervisor will be accepted.

Responsibilities of Recipients:

1.       Recipients must provide a brief explanation of scholarship expenditures by December 31, 2024.

2.       Recipients must provide a one-page summary on how scholarship furthered recipient’s educational goals by June 30, 2025, including details about course/clinical work, project development, etc.

The recipient of the $3,000 scholarship will be announced in March 2024 and shared publicly at NAPNAP’s national conference.  Conference attendance is not required of the recipient.
