The USPHS Commissioned Corps Senior Commissioned Officer Student Training Extern Program (SRCOSTEP) is an active-duty uniformed service program for full-time students pursuing their qualifying degrees. The student is sponsored by a participating agency while in school. The SRCOSTEP annual application period is open now until 9/15/2025, but will close after 250 applications!
SRCOSTEPs are compensated while attending their final year of academic study and incur a service obligation to the agency that sponsored the student equal to twice the time sponsored while in school upon graduation. Here are some important resources we highly encourage prospective applicants to review prior to the application process: SRCOSTEP policy, CCMIS SRCOSTEP FAQs, and SRCOSTEP FAQs. Please view the USPHS video: United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps - YouTube.
USPHS officers detailed to the ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC) provide care to underserved populations across the nation and abroad. The agency allows clinicians to operate within the full capacity of their license and encourages continuous improvement and growth within the profession.
IHSC selected candidates will know their assigned duty station early in the SRCOSTEP application process. |
IHSC believes that all health care professionals are leaders and is creating an environment where you can thrive in patient care and administration.
IHSC will provide a short presentation and Q&A session:
