DUSON Awarded AAMN Best School of Nursing Award

DUSON was recently awarded the 2016 American Assembly of Men in Nursing (AAMN) Best School or College of Nursing Award. The award recognizes schools that demonstrate significant efforts in recruiting and providing a supportive educational environment for men in nursing.

One reviewer noted: "Duke School of Nursing has a demonstrated a commitment to forwarding diversity and inclusion for underrepresented populations in Nursing and men in particular. There are testimonials from students and faculty throughout the application that the climate for men who are becoming nurses is inclusive and men friendly.” 

The award letter mentions specifically that “the history, consistency, quality, and commitment to creating a climate for men who are becoming professional nurses are impressive. You should be very proud.”

The School will formally be recognized on September 22 during the 41st annual AAMN conference in Miami, Florida.

Upcoming Duke American Assembly of Men in Nursing (DAAMN) Events & Information:

• Duke American Assembly of Men in Nursing will be holding the firstmeeting of fall semester October 6th, 5:15p in Rm 1011, there will be snacks!!! The goods- TBA

• DAAMN will be having Officer Elections this semester! If you are interested in this amazing leadership, resume boosting opportunity, please be sure to attend the meeting to learn more. If you cannot make it to the meeting and are interested, send me at email expressing your interest. 
• Following the meeting, we will host elections via an online poll with info regarding each candidate's qualifications, etc. Election will last approximately 1-2 week.
• DAAMN will be offering FREE AAMN memberships to students (a $30 value) who attend the meeting and join the Duke Chapter. This membership give you amazing resources, connections to professional networking opportunities and more! Don't forget, this is NOT restricted to men only! All are welcome! Limited scholarships available so don't hesitate! 

• The annual DAAMN-NSWOB Blood drive is just around the corner! Mark your calendars! November 17 12-4:30p! Watch out for more info, ways to volunteer, fliers, how to sign up and potentially an awesome FREE gift to those who donate, aside from that warm and fuzzy feeling inside from saving lives!

• Coming this spring, DAAMN will be partnering with local schools to present nursing as an amazing career for men and women to middle and high school students in Durham! Watch out for details, coming soon!

• DAAMN Strong Crossfit will be rescheduled for Spring semester, TBA!
