Interdisciplinary Funding Opportunities for Graduate Students
The Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary Studies has the following funding opportunities for graduate students:
Graduate Students Training Enhancement Grants (GSTEG)
Deadline: Feb. 25, 2019
The goal of this grant competition is to expand the opportunities for graduate students to “step away” from their core research and training, so as to acquire additional skills, knowledge, or experiences outside/beyond their discipline that are not available at Duke and that will enhance their capacity to carry out original research.
Supported activities include an internship related to field of research; cognate training workshop; or field work opportunity that includes specific training. The proposed experience may last for up to one full semester.
All current graduate students (including master’s, professional, and Ph.D. students) in any program at Duke may propose graduate training enhancement activities.
Duke Support for Interdisciplinary Graduate Networks (D-SIGN)
Deadline: Feb. 25, 2019
The goal of this grant competition is to enable graduate students to build or extend their networks and to integrate collaborative, cross-school experiences into their programs.
Graduate student groups can propose an interdisciplinary project, training, or experience lasting up to a year. Proposed projects or activities could include a year-long research team (e.g., on the Bass Connections model); groups to explore a compelling theme or problem that cuts across disciplinary lines (e.g., a reading group, group independent study, dissertation writing group); a joint effort to construct an interdisciplinary course for undergraduates, etc.
All current graduate students (including master’s, professional, and Ph.D. students) in any program at Duke may propose interdisciplinary groups and activities.
