MSN Student Matthews Volunteers with Hurricane Irma Relief Efforts

MSN student Bonnie Matthews, who lives outside of Atlanta, recently joined forces with the Georgia Medical Reserve Corp (MRC) to run a clinic at the Columbus Civic Center. The emergency shelter had more than 600 residents and Matthews and the clinical team saw close to 100 patients in the clinic each day.

She credits the support of her MSN professors: Dr. Schoenfisch, Professor Glavin, and Professor O'Brien in helping her to meet the need in her community and stay current in her school work. "I am proud to be enrolled at Duke University and I appreciate that the faculty made these kinds of concessions in support of what the profession of nursing is all about," said Matthews.

Prior to assisting with Hurricane Irma relief efforts, Matthews also volunteered with Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Houston.
