  • Duke International Travel Policy Update: Restriction Changes As A Result of Summer Review
    • Effective June 15, 2016, the Provost has modified restrictions on areas within four countries based on advice of the Global Travel Advisory Committee.  The following changes have been made to the Duke University Restricted Regions List:

      ·         Algeria – travel will now be allowed to the capital Algiers.  The remainder of the country will remain restricted. (previously there was a full country restriction in place for Algeria)

      ·         Burkina Faso – travel to Oudalan, Soum and Loroum Provinces as well as the border with Mali are restricted.  Travel to the remainder of the country is now allowed (previously there was a full country restriction applied to Burkina Faso).

      ·         Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) – Dix Huit Montagnes, Haut Sassandra, Moyen-Cavally and Bas-Sassandra are all restricted.  Travel to the remainder of the country is now allowed (previously there was a full country restriction in place).  Please note that there continue to be Federally imposed restrictions on travel by US passport holders to Cote d’Ivoire so if you or a student/faculty/staff member you work with plans to visit the country, he/she must first be cleared by the Office of Export Controls.

      ·         Mexico – Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, Sinaloa, Durango, Jalisco, Morelos, Michoacan, Guerrero and Mexico States are all restricted as is travel to the U.S./Mexico border.  Travel restrictions on Cuidad Juarez, Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey have been removed.

As always, any travelers in affected areas will be contacted with instructions of what steps they’ll need to take to remain in the now    restricted destination.  If you are aware of an affected traveler, contact Christy Michels at 919-684-2910.

Also, if you haven’t already checked it out, please do visit the new Travel Registry website at travel.duke.edu.  It offers a much easier method for Faculty and Staff to register their international travel plans with an express option (collecting only dates and destinations they’re visiting), a proxy option (so support staff can register for a faculty/administrator) and the standard form that has fewer fields and the flexibility of entering optional data.
