"Dr. Buerhaus's economist perspective on health care systems and his insight into the nursing and physician workforces in the United States is deeply relevant as we at the School strategize our vision for preparing future generations of nurse leaders."

Vincent Guilamo-Ramos

Dean

Buerhaus, well known for his studies on the nursing and physician workforces in the United States, will focus on the strengths that the nursing workforce had developed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the immediate economic impacts of the pandemic on the nursing workforce, the post-pandemic challenges facing nurses and nurse educators, and ways to address those challenges.

“Because of nursing's essential role in delivering integrated, people-centered care, our health agendas cannot be reached without a sustainable nursing workforce,” said Vincent Guilamo-Ramos, PhD, MPH, LCSW, RN, ANP-BC, PMHNP-BC, FAAN, dean, Duke School of Nursing, and vice chancellor, nursing affairs, Duke University.
