School Opens Prayer, Meditation Room for IPE Community

Duke School of Nursing is pleased to offer a space for the Duke Interprofessional Education community that provides the opportunity for prayer, reflection and meditation. This space is designed to support all religious and nonreligious identities, to foster a sense of belonging and to support a sense of inclusion so our community members feel they can bring their whole selves to work or school.

This space is designed to support all religious and nonreligious identities, to foster a sense of belonging and to support a sense of inclusion so our community members feel they can bring their whole selves to work or school.

The prayer/meditation room is located on the first floor of the Pearson building, Room 1003I. The room will be unlocked at 7am and locked at 5pm to allow for cleaning. There is a sliding sign that shows if the room is occupied or vacant. New visitors are asked to please not enter the room if it the sign on the door is marked Occupied. Anyone who does not mind if another person enters are the same time can leave the sign marked Vacant. A shoe rack is immediately to the left when you enter the space. Visitors should please remove their shoes.

The items currently provided are:

  • Meditation cushions
  • Meditation bells
  • Pitcher and bowl
  • Candles (battery operated with remote)
    • Please note that no items should use real fire in this building (i.e. candles, incense)
  • Lights with dim switch
  • Lamps (floor lamp has dimmer)
  • USB port on lamp for charging phone
  • Chairs for those unable or do not desire to kneel
  • Prayer mats
  • Wall compass

Visitors may bring other items with them or contact Brigit Carter with suggestions for additions.
