Webinar: Combating Provider Bias Toward Young People

Negative provider attitudes are one of the most common reasons that young people don’t seek facility-based health services, including contraception. And yet we’ve invested – and continue to invest -- large sums of money in training health care providers to be “youth friendly.”  While training may help providers develop new knowledge and skills, training has not been able to adequately address the deep-rooted beliefs, attitudes, norms, and biases about adolescent and youth sexuality that providers and community members may hold.

Pathfinder International, with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and in partnership with YLabs, Camber Collective and BERI has been tackling the issue of provider bias in its Beyond Bias Project. Implemented in Burkina Faso, Tanzania, and Pakistan, the project is applying new techniques, such as segmentation and human centered design, to develop and test innovative, scalable solutions to provider bias.

On Tuesday, January 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. EST, attend a webinar with Lydia Murithi and Bram Brooks of Pathfinder International and Theo Gibbs of YLabs to learn about Beyond Bias’s successes and challenges in developing tools and resources that that help providers understand and overcome the biases that affect their abilities to provide high quality, adolescent responsive care.
