This article is based on Tallent's DNP project "Virtual Rounding: Extending the Radius of Family-Centered Care in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU)." She is a nurse practitioner in the PCICU and also won an inaugural Duke Pediatric Heart Center Impact Award for this project.

Having a child hospitalized for an extended time can be trying on their family. Balancing work, other children and commitments can make visiting and being abreast of care changes challenging. The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) at Duke University Hospital (DUH) came up with a way to help parents alleviate extra stress by connecting with them virtually for daily rounds.​
