Sigma presents "Amplifying the Power of Nursing: Beyond Traditional Nursing Roles" on April 15 at 4 p.m. EDT. This session will discuss the opportunities that are different than traditional nursing roles as well as how to locate and prepare for these roles. Another focus will be how to share or “import” the voice of the nurse into these roles to advance nursing and meet role expectations. This webinar is a part of our Unique Roles in Nursing Webinar Series.

Transgender Health Webinar Series

Please join the Network of the National Library of Medicine Pacific Southwest at the UCLA Biomedical Library and Southeastern Atlantic Region at the University of Maryland-Baltimore for their Transgender Health webinar series. With approximately one million adults in the U.S. identifying as Transgender and/or Gender Non-Binary (TGNB), this population experiences violence, inequities, biases and discrimination on many levels. Less than one percent of physicians and 0.7 percent of medical students identify as TGNB, underscoring the need for quality, affirmative health care.

These webinars focus on the social determinants of health that create the backbone of health disparities and the resiliency this community holds.

Alison Taur (she/her) serves as the regional lead for Nuclear Medicine in Kaiser Permanente Southern California and faculty member for the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine. Ly Pham (pronounced Lee) is nonbinary, and their pronouns are they/them/theirs. Their specific areas of focus include LGBTQ+ health care, gender-affirming care (which includes hormone therapy), and HIV care and prevention. Taur and Pham will speak about their personal backgrounds as TGNB physicians practicing at Kaiser Permanente and their work in advocating and caring for their communities.

Ren Massey (he/his), licensed psychologist, has served on the board of directors of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and is faculty and co-chair/mental health chair of the WPATH Global Education Initiative (GEI). Lore Dickey (he/his) is an expert in the field of transgender psychological services, has served as co-chair of the APA task force on guidelines for working with trans people and is an APA fellow. This session will break down societal assumptions about the LGBTQIA+ community, their mental health needs and resources to support them.
