DNP Student Reed Produces Video for the Stop the Bleed Program

DNP student James "Jim" Reed with contribution from his chair Margaret "Meg" Carman produces video as part of the Stop the Bleed program. The video is part of his DNP project encompassing hemorrhage control for tactical first responders. Stop the Bleed is a law-enforcement implementation program as recommended by the Hartford Consensus. It is a performance improvement project to train police officers in hemorrhage control techniques while remaining tactically and situationally aware.

The setting for the video is the Pinehurst North Carolina Police Department. The Village of Pinehurst frequently hosts major sporting events and is 70 miles from the nearest trauma center. The scenario was based on the Boston Marathon bombing coupled with an active shooter event at a youth soccer event. A worst case scenario, where the officers were required to respond, address a threat and render aid to the wounded. The techniques are based on Tactical Emergency Casualty Care which is the civilian version of Tactical Combat Casualty Care.
