DUSON Celebrates Winter 2020 Graduates

More than 270 graduates were honored Saturday during the Duke University School of Nursing’s 2020 Virtual School of Nursing Hooding and Recognition Ceremony.
The main ceremony occurred at 11 a.m., and was preceded by a brief live launch party at 10:45 a.m.
Those who graduated included 74 Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) students, 165 Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and certificate students, and 34 Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students.
The ceremony comprised a set of recorded speeches and individual graduation recognition slides. Events included:
- Welcome: Marion E. Broome, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean and Ruby Wilson Professor of Nursing, School of Nursing; vice chancellor for Nursing Affairs, Duke University; and associate vice president for Academic Affairs for Nursing, Duke University Health System
- Student Speaker Remarks: Gina Taylor Willaford, DNP student
- Presentation of Ruby L. Wilson Award Winner: Ann Michelle Hartman, DNP, RN, NP, assistant dean, ABSN Program, and assistant professor
- Presentation of Thelma Ingles Award Winner: Kathryn J. Trotter, DNP, CNM, FNP-C, FAANP, FAAN, associate professor
- DNP Student Recognition: Katherine C. Pereira, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, ADM-BC, FAAN, FAANP, assistant dean, Doctor of Nursing Practice Program, and professor
- MSN/Certificate Recognition: Anne L. Derouin, DNP, RN, CPNP, FAANP, assistant dean, Master of Science in Nursing Program, and professor
- ABSN Recognition: Hartman
- Alumni Remarks: Marianne Tango Williams, BSN'81
- Closing: Broome
- Singing of Duke’s Alma Mater: The Nightingales
The launch party consisted of toasts to the graduates from Broome and the program directors.
