President Brodhead Faculty Bookwatch
Join President Richard Brodhead for the Faculty Bookwatch, an exploration and celebration of recent books by Duke Faculty in the Humanities and Interpretive Social Sciences, for Speaking of Duke: Leading the 21st Century University. The event takes place Wednesday, April 19, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Nasher Museum of Art. Admission is free.
Description: Co-sponsored by the Franklin Humanities Institute and Duke University Libraries since 2004, the annual Faculty Bookwatch program promotes interdisciplinary conversations on major recent books by Duke humanities faculty.
On Wednesday April 19 at 5:30 p.m., we will celebrate a forthcoming book by Richard H. Brodhead, William Preston Few Professor of English and Duke University President: Speaking of Duke: Leading the 21st-Century University (Duke University Press).
External guest respondents will be University of Virginia Buckner W. Clay Dean of Arts & Sciences (and former Franklin Humanities Institute director) Ian Baucom, and Harvard University Professor of Business Administration and History and Chairman of the Harvard China Fund William Kirby. Duke respondents will be Richard Powell (John Spencer Bassett Professor of Art and Art History), and Sarah Beckwith (Katherine Everett Gilbert Professor and Chair of English).
With support from the Nasher Museum of Art, the event will take place in the Nasher Auditorium, with a book signing and reception to follow in the Atrium.
