Faculty & Staff Awards 2023

The hard work and dedication of our staff professionals help make DUSON such a wonderful place. The annual staff awards program consists of five awards that recognize and celebrate the contributions of the many staff members who exhibit outstanding commitment and dedication to the mission of the School.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, by March 14th please complete a nomination form for each staff member you wish to nominate. If you would like to nominate a staff member for more than one award or nominate more than one staff member for the same award, please complete a nomination form for each. Winners will be announced at the Spring Award Ceremony.

Nominate a Staff Member

Dean's Commitment to Excellence Award

This award is presented to a staff member selected from the recipients of the School’s Commitment to Excellence Staff Recognition Program. Nominees for the Dean’s Commitment to Excellence Award must have met one or more of the following criteria throughout the year:

  • Consistently demonstrates excellence in the performance of their job responsibilities.
  • Consistently exhibits a superb and ongoing high level of service to their customers.
  • Consistently produces the highest quality of work product.
  • Performed a significant and exceptional role in the completion of a high impact project or initiative

Frances Mauney Community & Collaboration Award

This award is presented to the DUSON staff member who influences others by working in support of the greater DUSON mission. This employee positively impacts the School community dynamics by consistently showing respect, appreciation and exuberance towards coworkers. The recipient exemplifies and embodies the core values of DUSON when collaborating across DUSON departments, academic programs and divisions.


Leadership Award

This award is presented to the DUSON staff member who is open minded, resourceful, enthusiastic, respectful, a good communicator and versatile. This employee is invested in the overall success and mission of the School. The recipient has the aptitude, confidence and a desire to grow and consistently demonstrates qualities inherent to great leadership.


Peer-to-Peer Award

This award is presented to the DUSON staff member who consistently goes above and beyond in delivering service members of the DUSON community. This employee demonstrates exceptional character by making careful, honest and considerate decisions. The recipient is approachable, resourceful, knowledgeable, dependable and consistently displays a professional approach to DUSON’s work.


Outstanding Service to Students Award

This student-nominated award is presented to the DUSON staff member who has gone above and beyond to assist students. This employee is accessible, patient and approachable and is committed to their role in support of DUSON students. The recipient exemplifies consistent support and dedication to the education, scholarship and overall success of students.


Minimum Selection Criteria

Nominees must:

  • Be employed as a staff member by DUSON for a minimum of one year as their primary Duke pay point on the date the nomination is submitted.
  • Have received a Successful or Exceptional rating on the most recently completed formal performance review.
  • Not be in a formal performance counseling process.

Self-nominations will not be accepted.

Selection Criteria and Nominations

The Dean will select the recipient of the Dean’s Commitment to Excellence Award from among those who have received Commitment to Excellence recognition and a commemorative coin during the academic year.

Nominations for the four other staff awards are solicited during February and March by the Staff and Workplace Advocacy Council, in collaboration with the office of the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration. Nominations will be accepted only from currently enrolled DUSON students for the Outstanding Service to Students Award. Nominations for the Frances Mauney Community & Collaboration Award, Peer-to-Peer Award, and Leadership Award will be accepted from any currently employed DUSON staff or faculty member or any currently enrolled DUSON student.

Recognition and Announcement of the Awards

Award nominees who meet the minimum selection criteria and award recipients will be recognized during the DUSON Awards Ceremony this Spring. Award recipients will be given a framed certificate and a $500 award check and will have their names placed on an award placard in the first-floor corridor of the Pearson building.
